BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 13TH 2017 – It was a red letter day for Kittitian Hadiya Claxton.
On June 12th 2017, Ms. Claxton was among several lawyers admitted to the bar of the U.S Supreme Court in Washington D.C.
Witnessing the ceremony as her husband, Mr. Deanne Kelly.
Mrs. Claxton is a graduate from Harvard Law School and lawyer in the Georgia Supreme Court in Atlanta.
“For a lawyer that practices in the U.S, it is the highest level that you can attain. I guess it would be similar to being a QC in the Caribbean. It is important to be barred at that level because without being admitted to the U.S Supreme Court bar you can never serve at that level, you can never even submit documents to the court, you can never appear in front of the court unless you are specifically barred for the U.S Supreme Court. It’s my last step in any of the achievements I need to attain to sort of wrap up my legal career in the U.S,” she told WINNFM in an interview in April.
Attorney at law Claxton is a former student of the Convent School, now the Immaculate Conception Catholic School and the George Moody Stewart School, also known as Factory School. She also attended that Basseterre Junior High School, the Basseterre High School, the sixth form college which at the time was called the College of Further Education and now the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).
Ms. Claxton is the daughter of the late Dr. Steven Claxton, a physician, obstetrician-gynaecologist, and general surgeon.
Her mother is Jamaican-born Dr. Jacqueline Claxton, the Honorary Consul of Jamaica to St. Kitts and Nevis.
