Sixteen year old fashion designer, Mikaya Collins has been invited to showcase her talents in New York later this week.
According to a Facebook post from parliamentary representative for constituency number 8, Collins received the invitation from well known Jamaican Designer, D’Marsh.
Hon. Hamilton in a post shared on Facebook said:
I met with the young talented designer and offered words of encouragement and my full support during a visit to her family home on family home on Sunday. I shared some photos with both mom and daughter.

Mikaya’s work was featured during the Nevis Culturama festivities at the Home-coming night dubbed ‘Unchained’ which was held at Herbert’s Beach.
Collins, who has already won local designer competition’s, impressed when a representative of D’Marsh visited St. Kitts to scout for talented designers.
D’Marsh is owned by Glenroy March, a Jamaican born, New York based fashion designer.
He launched his brand House of D’Marsh in spring 2003 to coincide his debut collection presented during Caribbean Fashion Week in Kingston. The award-winning designer received his early training from top Caribbean fashion house Uzuri International, where he excelled as an intern assistant designer.
Isis Walters, the mother of Mikaya Collins disclosed that her daughter began cutting everything that was fabric since she was six years old, including the curtains and the flat sheets, using them to make clothes said Hamilton.
According to the Facebook post by Hamilton, the fashion designer will be departing the Federation today Monday along with her mother.
