The Leeward Island Hurricanes recorded their fourth win at Conaree Cricket Grounds yesterday, (Tuesday) in the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup.
A record fifth wicket partnership between Devon Thomas and captain Jahmar Hamilton led their team to a six-wicket win over Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners after stumbling at 32-4.
Thomas hit an unbeaten 78 which included nine fours and one six while Hamilton struck seven fours and three sixes for his 77 not out from 114 balls. The successful partnership of 159 for the Hurricanes set a new record for the team. Additionally, they etched their names in the record books of the West Indies Super50.
The team’s previous record partnership of 136 against Guyana, (Coolidge Cricket Grounds, Antigua – 2018) was held by Rahkeem Cornwall and Terrance Warde.
The overrall record of 147 was held by Andre McCarthy and Jermaine Blackwood of Jamaica Scorpions. This came against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force six years ago at Sabina Park.
Hamilton formalised the result for the Hurricanes with 54 balls remaining, when he swung Akeem Jordan over mid-wicket for six.
With the win, the Hurricanes moved to 16 points and are in second, four wins from six games.
