Basseterre, St. Kitts – February 20, 2026 – History was made as Greyson Burrell became the first Optimist sailor from St. Kitts and Nevis to compete at the 34th edition of the International Sailing Week of Schoelcher in Martinique.
Over four competitive days, he sailed 13 races against a strong fleet of 49 regional and international sailors. With shifting winds and challenging race conditions, Greyson demonstrated steady growth throughout the regatta — finishing with his strongest performances on the final day, including an impressive 18th-place finish. His final three races were his best of the event, showcasing resilience, adaptability, and increasing confidence on the international stage.
Greyson shared:”This regatta taught me a lot. The competition was strong, and every race pushed me out of my comfort zone to think faster and sail smarter. Finishing strong on the last day showed me that I can compete at this level. I’m proud of how much I improved, and I’m even more motivated for my upcoming regattas this season.”
For the St. Kitts Yacht Club, this milestone represents continued growth in youth sailing and expanded international representation for St. Kitts and Nevis.
We extend sincere thanks to his supporters, well-wishers, and everyone who continues to believe in the development of sailing within our federation.
