Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 27, 2018 – The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) caretaker for St. Christopher 8, Dr. Terrance Drew Tuesday issued an appeal to the authorities to replace the rings that he donated to the basketball court so that the young men in that community can participate in one of their favourite sports. at the court in Keys.
In a statement, the medical practitioner disclosed that he assisted in procuring and donating the backboards and rings for the basketball court in June last year.
Dr. Drew pointed out it is months now that they have been taken down, thus denying the young men to play and practice.
“I hereby call on the Hon. Eugene Hamilton to please get the rings or replace the rings that I donated so that the young men can play. I waited for a long time for him to get the rings, as I understand that sometimes things take time, but the constant calls from the guys in Keys have pushed me to do this. This is just taking too long,” said Dr. Drew in a statement.
Contacted by telephone, Dr. Drew said the failure of the authorities to replace rings also denies “our young people in the Keys community the opportunity to keep fit, to be healthy and become productive persons in their community.”
“It also allows helps them to keep out of trouble and stay away from crime by using their spare time recreationally,” he said.
The SKNLP caretaker recently disclosed that last December his Constituency group applied to use the Keys Community Centre for the annual Children’s Christmas Party and was told it was under construction.
“We erected a tent on the basketball court, less than six feet from the community centre which the (Team Unity) government claimed was under construction. That same afternoon, the PAM representative, Hon. Eugene Hamilton arrived and held his Christmas Party inside the same community centre that we were told was under construction,” said Dr. Drew.
