Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 14, 2017 – Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is out of the Federation and will not be able to attend Tuesday’s sitting of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, but will be most present at the 7th Special Session of the 25 Most Remarkable Teens on Thursday 16th November.
A statement from the Office of the Leader of the Opposition said Dr. Douglas’ absence from the Tuesday’s sitting of the lawmaking body “is due to pre-existing travel arrangements.”
“The travel arrangements were made well in advance of this parliamentary sitting being scheduled,” said the statement, which added:

“The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and the Parliamentary Opposition are firmly of the view that this particular parliamentary sitting was hurriedly scheduled in an effort to make the rumour about Dr Douglas being disqualified as a Member of Parliament, appear factual.”
“It is an egregious lie born of Dr Harris’ ever-growing fear of the Labour Party’s and Dr. Douglas’ increasing popularity throughout the country after nearly three years of Team Unity’s disastrous governance,” said the statement.

Dr. Douglas, the federation’s second prime minister has given the nation the assurance that he will be present for the Special Session of the National Assembly to honour the Federation’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens for 2017 on Thursday 16th November and the 2018 Budget Debate in December.
The First Special Setting of the 25 Most Remarkable Teens was inaugurated in 2011 during the third-term Denzil Douglas-led St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party administration with Hon. Curtis Martin as Speaker, Hon. Glenn Phillip as Minister of Youth Empowerment and Mr. Geoffrey Hanley as Director of Youth.
