SKN PULSE – Antigua’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne at a political meeting last night, told party supporters and residents of Gray’s Farm that they can now legally consume cannabis without being locked up.

A recent amendment to the Misuse of Drug Act has been gazetted.

Browne told supporters and well wishers that “the days of terrorising the ghetto youth are over and we stopped it.”

As a result of the law been passed, Antiguans are now allowed to legally have 15 grams of cannabis in their possession. Browne encourages Antiguans to smoke in the privacy of their homes but to be responsible.

The law which was passed in both the lower and upper house also allows for a household to have up to four plants in their possession. In addition, it prevents users from being criminalised for the use of cannabis.

The bold step by the Browne led Antigua Labour Party Government comes at a time when Antiguans will decide their next government in a Macrch 21 poll.
