Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 07, 2025 (SKNIS): Construction of the new Basseterre High School is expected to begin in the coming weeks as the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis prepares to meet a key commitment to have a modern facility that capitalises on latest teaching and learning techniques and technology,
“It will be one like no other in the region,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister and Minister of Education, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, at a press conference with members of the Cabinet on Thursday (March 06, 2025).
The demolition of the buildings on the Basseterre High School grounds began in December 2023. To ensure proper construction in the area, the government commissioned an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report.
“We are ensuring that all the bases are covered because we must, and we will do it right,” Dr. Hanley emphasised.
The Ministry of Education also received requests from several schools to stage their sport meets on the grounds at Victoria Road. Now that these requests have been honoured, work is set to begin shortly.
“Now that the grounds are totally released, we are going to see action in quick time,” the deputy prime minister stated. “We will deliver on the Basseterre High School.”
Dr. Hanley reiterated that up to 95 percent of the workforce constructing the new Basseterre High Schools would be locals.
