SKN PULSE – At an event hosted by Sunny Ulster, (Saturday 28th October), the Mustangs Cross Country team claimed it’s fourth straight Region XV Championship after having all of the Top-8 finishers in the meet in both the Men’s 8K race and the Women’s 5K race.
A feat that Coach Greene states that he is “privilege to witness”.
Monroe’s performances in the 2017 NJCAA Division 1 Region XV Championship meet highlights the high-level of training being done at Monroe College.
The top male finishers were Alex Masai (1st) -27:17.2, Lizo Sibeko, James Majenge, Thapelo Makofane, Kasique Oliver, Daniel Martin, Luis Nieves and Shaquille Barzey.
The top females like the males were all Monroe Students. Claudrice Mckoy earned her second first place finish. Dawnel Collymore placed second was was followed by Lethabo Seema and Malethabo Seema. Fifth, sixth, seventh and eight place were won by Roland Boyce, Elizabeth Mendy, Mateel Cameron and Jameshia Charlton.
As a result of completing such a feat all 16 Mustang runners have been named to the 2017 NJCCA Division 1 All-Region XV Team.
Both teams also qualifies for the 2017 NJCAA Division 1 National Championship Meet to be held in Des Moines, Iowa on Satuday 11th November, 2017.
Coach Greene hinted, “while I am happy with the results thus far, there is still room for improvement interms of having athletes set personal best and working more cohesively as a unit”.
