BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – September 4, 2026 – As a prelude to National Heroes Day and the Federation’s 43rd Independence celebrations, CIBC Caribbean has officially announced Mr. Vikell Edwards-Douglas as the 2026 CIBC Caribbean St. Kitts Unsung Hero.
The prestigious Unsung Heroes initiative, originally established in 2003 and relaunched region-wide last year, recognizes everyday citizens making extraordinary, selfless contributions to their communities without seeking the spotlight. The Federation enters this year’s regional round following significant momentum from last year’s local champion, Ms. Venetta Zakers, who went on to finish as First Runner-Up in the regional Unsung Heroes celebration.
Edwards-Douglas was selected from a competitive pool of nominees for his more than 16 years of community service, which began when he was just 11 years old. Transforming childhood hardship into enduring purpose, his initiatives have directly touched more than 3,000 lives across St. Kitts and Nevis. His contributions include establishing a school breakfast programme to ensure vulnerable students begin the day nourished, founding a Prom Assistance Programme to help students attend milestone celebrations with dignity, and leading continuous outreach to the St. Christopher Children’s Home, the Cardin Home, churches, and local schools.
At an intimate ceremony hosted at the CIBC Caribbean Basseterre branch, CIBC Caribbean Country Head Ms. EbernaWhyte presented Edwards-Douglas with a plaque and a monetary award of EC$13,500.00 toward his philanthropic work. He will now represent St. Kitts and Nevis in the regional competition, vying for the overall title of Regional Unsung Hero among representatives across the bank’s 10 operating territories.
CIBC Caribbean also honoured educator and youth advocate Mr. Justin Moses as the 2026 First Runner-Up, awarding him EC$6,750.00. Over the past year, Mr. Moses served as Fifth Form Year Head at Cayon High School, conducting home visits, offering late-night SBA and exam tutoring, and bridging the gap between parents and teachers—efforts that propelled Cayon High School to third place nationally in academic performance.

The local adjudication panel comprised Mrs. Cynthia Morton, Mr. Ladimer Gumbs, and Mr. Peter Irish.
