BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale rattled the Federation in the wee hours this morning (April, 17).
The event took place at about 1.23 a.m. An usual shaking caused some people to be awoken from their sleep while some indicated instantly on social media that they felt the shake.
According to a social media release from the UWI Seismic Research Centre, the earthquake was felt in St. Kitts and Nevis, Guadeloupe and Antigua and Barbuda.
The automatic Earthquake Location was listed as latitude: 17.48N and longitude: 61.20W with a depth of 10 km.
The earthquake was:
– 83 km NE of Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda
– 141 km NNE of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe
– 171 km E of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis
There hasn’t been any report of damages on St. Kitts or Nevis.
