Hotel awards US$10,000 grant to St. Christopher Children’s Home for its positive community impact

Basseterre, St. Kitts (November 21, 2016) – As a part of Hyatt Community Grants, a philanthropic program that empowers Hyatt colleagues to guide charitable giving, Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour announced today that it has awarded The St. Christopher Children’s Home with a US$10,000 grant to further the organization’s efforts in providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment for children whose best interests are served and promoted by placement in residential care, due to potential or actual harm in their own homes or communities. The Home, which proactively goes beyond domestic care, takes a holistic approach to children’s development, using a variety of programmes designed to harness, cultivate and sustain their talents and aspirations.

The Hyatt Community Grants program, which is now in its ninth year, encourages hotels around the world to identify and nominate local nonprofits for funding consideration. The program builds on Hyatt’s belief that no one better understands a local community’s most pressing issues – and their solutions – than those who live and work there. Since 2008, colleagues at Hyatt hotels have helped direct more than $2.4 million to 199 nonprofits in 44 countries around the world.

“We are honored to support The St. Christopher Children’s Home and their valuable contributions to our community,” said Mr. Julian Moore, General Manager of Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour. “We consider the members of our community an integral part of the Hyatt family, and through our relationship with The St. Christopher Children’s Home, we have seen first-hand the way its work enables our city to thrive.”

All participating nonprofits must have a significant local presence and support one of Hyatt’s four philanthropic pillars: Environmental Sustainability, Education & Career Readiness, Economic Development & Investment, or Health & Wellness.

“Receiving this grant is a great honor, and we are thankful that Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour nominated our organization to be the recipient of this generous donation,” said Ms. Margaret Stevens, Administrator of The St. Christopher Children’s Home. “We know this grant will go a long way in helping us achieve our goals of providing genuine, holistic care for children.”
Funding for the Hyatt Community Grants program is provided by Hyatt. Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour will be among 26 Hyatt hotels around the world that will award grants totaling $350,000 to nonprofits in their local communities in 2016.

“At Hyatt, we believe that fulfilling our purpose starts with an understanding of the needs of others.  This is at the core of our Hyatt Community Grants program, because no one is better suited to identify what our communities’ need than our colleagues who live and work there,” said Brigitta Witt, global head of corporate responsibility, Hyatt. “Hyatt Community Grants puts local colleagues in the drivers’ seat in order to guide support for the organizations bringing solutions to their communities’ unique needs. We look forward to continuing this positive momentum in the future to help many more of these well-deserving non-profit organizations.”
