LICB Press Release

The Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) announces the appointment of Mr. Stuart Williams as Head Coach of the Leeward Islands (LI) Hurricanes franchise team.

The appointment takes effect on October 01st 2019 and will end on July 31, 2021.

Mr. Williams brings to the post vast coaching experience, which commenced in his native island of Nevis over twelve (12) years ago with national U15, U17 and U19 teams. Since then he has gained significant regional and international experience as evidenced by the following appointments: 1. Head Coach of the Nevis Pro Team in the Stanford T20 tournament -2006/7 2. Head Coach of the Senior Leeward Island team. 3. Assistant Coach of various West Indies (WI) A teams 2010 – 2013. 4. Assistant Coach of various WI U 19 teams 2010- 2012. 5. Head Coach of the St. Lucia Zouks CPL franchise. 6. Assistant Coach of the WI world champion T20 team in 2016. 7. Assistant Head Coach WI B team in the Canadian T20 tournament – 2018. 8. Assistant Coach with the Women’s team tour to UK in 2017. 9. Interim Head of the senior WI team to the 2015 World Cup.

Prior to taking up coaching Stuart represented the LI as an opening batsman and as Captain with distinction amassing 9,517 first class runs (including 26 centuries) with a highest score of 252 not out. He also played at the highest level representing the WI between 1994 and 2002 in Test and ODIs scoring 1183 in 31 matches and 1586 runs from 57 matches respectively.

As Head Coach, Mr. Williams will be responsible for the short- and long-term playing objectives of the LI Hurricanes which include developing appropriate training programs, teaching game concepts, overseeing drills and provide guidance to enhance the development of the players and by extension a team oriented winning culture.

The LICB is based in St. Kitts in the twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and is the governing body responsible for the administration of cricket in St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, the US Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, and such other countries or territories as may be recognized as part of the LI grouping by Cricket West Indies.
