SKN PULSE – The political atmosphere on Nevis has gone into an even higher gear as both parties try to sway votes and momentum away from each other.
Over the weekend, Hon. Mark Brantley penned a post entitled NRP Rent to Own Apartment Scheme another Hoax. A quick response from Mr. Cory Tyson, caretaker for the Nevis Reformation Party, spurred a debate when Tyson penned don’t be disingenuous.
NRP’s Rent to Own Initiative has gained popularity with the masses overtime and now Brantley is pitching his party’s plan.
In a social media post, Deputy Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, Honourable Mark Brantley, examined the initiative being proposed by the Nevis Reformation Party and NRP’S caretaker for the St. George’s Constituency, Mr. Cory Tyson defended his party’s stance without unveiling all the specifics to the Rent to Own initiative.
Brantley stated that the CCM started the housing revolution in Nevis under the late great Malcolm Guishard”. He added that the NRP now says they are offering an “innovative” and “revolutionary” RENT TO OWN apartment scheme if elected: So let us examine this”.
Brantley opined that the last NRP term they built Cherry Gardens largely on the identical Rent to own basis.
NRP built close to 300 homes in their last term in office however they were criticized for allowing persons to occupy homes and pay the Housing Corporation monthly.
According to Brantley they had no title and no chance of ever getting a title unless they paid for 30 to 40 years at 8-8.5% interest.
Care-taker for the Nevis Reformation Party, Cory Tyson penned that “NRP’s Rent To Own Program is an OPTION for those who would want to take it”.
Tyson posted that “financial status is unique to them, (renters) and what works for you may not necessarily work for them”. He further stated, “Don’t bash a program solely from your own personal perspective”, in response to Brantley.
Brantley used the opportunity to also speak about his Administration’s initiative of a 15% reduction in price, legal fees paid and a much lower interest rate as per the case with Housing under the Nevis Reformation Party. Brantley believes CCM’s way “gives owners true ownership with their title in their names and equity in their homes as they pay off their debt”.
Tyson’s perspective is simply that many folks are renting now with no immediate plans for owning. He wrote that, “If they do change their minds in the future, those years of paying rent will go for nothing”.
In closing, Mr. Tyson further lamented that, “at least with the NRP’s plan, their rent can be put towards their purchase price”.
