Basseterre, St. Kitts – In 1947, Solomon Sahely opened a small business at Baker’s Corner, built on hard work and dedicated service to the community. In its early years, the store sold saltfish, mackerel, groceries,
and other dry goods to meet families’ everyday needs.

In 1970, the business moved to Cayon Street. Over time, it expanded to include hats, bags, shoes, and other items, eventually adding fabric and becoming known as The Fabric Store. Solomon worked there until his passing in 2000.

His wife, Nahia Sahely, continued the business with dedication and care, serving the community until the store closed in December 2025.

For many years, customers relied on The Fabric Store to supply fabric for school and work uniforms, prom dresses, carnival costumes, curtains, and other handmade items. The store was more than a place to buy fabric – it was part of the memories and moments those fabrics helped create.

The family sincerely thanks all customers, families, and generations who have supported the business over the years. Special appreciation is also extended to the police and hospital officers who have consistently patronised the store.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the public for its loyalty and support over the decades.
