Catches win matches and that saying proved true Wednesday afternoon at the Elquemedo T. Willett Park when the St. Thomas’ Primary School beat defending Champions Ivor Walters Primary School.
STPS won the Runako Morton/TDC Primary Schools’ Cricket Championship by 16 runs.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, St. Thomas’ was off to a great start with Tylo Nisbett and Javian Liburd.
However, Liburd departed and Adrian Williams joined Nisbett as they set the platform for the innings. At the end of the allotted 15 overs, St. Thomas’ amassed 104.
After a 15 minute break, the Ivor Walters batsmen took to the field and responded. In quick time, they lost an early wicket.
Lyte Browne along with opener Omari Jones steadied the ship until Browne went caught at cover. Soon after Kenroy Freeman followed.
While he threatened briefly with his power hitting, an error cost him his wicket.
A direct hit by Isiah Saddler had Freeman back in the pavilion. With victory in sight, St. Thomas’ was bubbling with confidence as IWPS big names were all back in the pavilion.
The asking rate was increasing and the pressure was mounting on Jones. Another runout….the fall of Jones wicket sealed the deal for the St. Thomas’ team.
At the end of Ivor Walters innings, they were 88/9. St. Thomas’ won by 16 runs.
