The United Nations Development Program has released the Human Development Index for 2018: St. Kitts and Nevis is the third most developed country in the Caribbean and is ranked 72nd in the world.
The Index is released annually to highlight the status of the world.
According to the 2018 edition, the UN agency states that there has been considerable progress in development in the world, but this has been marred by consistent disparities and deprivations.
It sampled 189 countries in the world, including 33 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago ranked 1st in the Caribbean with Antigua and Barbuda ranking 2nd. They both were ranked 66th and 70th respectively among countries.
SKN ranked favourably in the HDI’s indices which include life expectancy (74.4), education (Education: 8.4 average years spent in school against 14.4 expected years) and the standard of living equates to $23,978 gross national income per capita).
