Antiguan female cricketer, Shawnisha Hector impressed selectors during training camp and has earned her selection in the West Indies Women’s squad. She now has the distinction of being the first female from Antigua and Barbuda and the Leeward Islands to be selected to the senior team.
Hector, who has served as captain of the Leeward Islands Women’s team will wear the West Indies colours at home in Antigua where the first two Colonial Medical Insurance ODI’s will be played.
The games are slated for November 1st and 3rd at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
The 14 member squad will be led by captain, Stefanie Taylor, and includes, Anisa Mohammed – vice captain, Afy Fletcher, Britney Cooper, Chedean Nation, Chinelle Henry, Stacey-Ann King, Kyshona Knight, Natasha McLean, Shabika Gajnabi, Shermaine Campbelle and Sheneta Grimmond.
Lead selector of the Women’s and Girls panel, Ann Browne-John, expressed that the selectors were impressed by the young medium pace of Aaliyah Alleyne and Shawnisha Hector, (two debutants).
She said:
The selection panel chose a good balance of youth and experience when assembling this squad. We have the return of the experienced Chedean Nation, and Shermaine Campbelle, who missed the last series against Australia due to injury.
