(EMU) – St. Kitts, November, 15, 2017: With the objective of enhancing learning experiences of students of the Cayon High, a Technical Drawing Laboratory was recently constructed and handed over to the school.
This venture was made possible by funding from the Basic Need Trust Fund (BNTF), and the executing agency, the Ministry of Education. In a brief ceremony held at the school on Wednesday 15TH November, Ministry officials, members of staff and students and members of the Cayon Community, witnessed the ceremonious cutting of the ribbon.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister with responsibility for Education et al, Hon Shawn Richards spoke on the significance of collaboration and urged all stakeholders involved to take special care of the new facilities. “Our collaboration has resulted in securing very elaborate premises, it is critically important that all key stakeholders make a concerted effort to ensure that it lasts for a long time. The subproject monitoring committee, the Parent-Teacher Association, and the students are expected to contribute to its sustainability.”
The Minister also urged students to pursue the subject of Technical Drawing; advising them that if they acquired such a marketable skill set, they would have much better opportunities for advancement both locally and abroad.
“As we aim to reduce poverty and improve the standard of living for all it is imperative that we strive to ensure students attain quality education even as they aim to acquire technical skills. The infrastructure now creates an accommodating, alluring and encouraging environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.”
Ms. Azilla Clarke, Acting Project Manager at the BNTF Office in St. Kitts, underscored the importance of both the Education and Human Resource Development sectors within the Federation. She divulged that the Cayon Community has been the recipients of investments from the BNTF, which includes, completed renovations at the Cayon Primary, and installation of emergency water facilities at Cayon Community Centre. “These investments will ensure access to key educational services, while also improving the level of comfort of all beneficiaries at these institutions.” Stated Ms. Clarke.
The construction of the classroom was done during the months of March – August 2017 and encompasses 750 square feet. The key parties involved in the planning and implementation phases of the Laboratory are The Caribbean Development Bank, Basic Needs Trust Fund, Ministry of Education, KG Cassel Constructions and O’Loughlin Construction.
