The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Track & Field awards were announced on Thursday at a Banquet ceremony in Pittsburgh, Kansas. Among the awardees is former distance runner and Monroe Assistant Coach, Shirvon Greene.
The USTFCCCA awarded the Monroe College indoor track and field teams with four Atlantic Region awards at the ceremony.
Monroe head coach Lesleigh Hogg was selected as the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year for both the men and women, while Assistant Head Coach Shirvon Greene was picked as the Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year for both categories.
Coach Hogg and Greene have now won the respective awards for the fifth straight season.
According to Greene:
It’s our job as coaches to deliver.
Our success is as a result of hard work.
As a unit, the Coaches have racked up noteworthy mentions.
Their team prior to the National Championships were ranked as follows:
Women’s team – No. 3 national ranking Men’s team – No. 9 national ranking
During the season both Women’s and Men’s team set program records with high rankings of second and fifth respectively.
Two students also won Athlete of the year awards. They are Faten Laribi, (Alantic Region Female Athlete of he Year) and McCurdy, (Atlantic Region Male Athelte of the Year).
