(EMU) – St. Kitts, January 22, 2018: In an effort to effectively equip teachers with the necessary tools to deliver the subject, Health and Family Life Education (HFLE), the Ministry of Education (MoE) hosted a workshop intended for a selected number of educators to be trained in this subject area.
Speaking on behalf of the MoE, Education Officer Ms. Michelle Sutton stated that the workshop was just another facet of the existing Child Friendly Schools (CFS) initiative, which was implemented in 2015.
She noted that the MoE has already made commendable strides with the HFLE curriculum indicating that the subject is now present on the newly implemented standardized school report books for both primary and secondary schools in St. Kitts.
Workshop facilitator and Health and Family Life Educator, Ms. Andrea Battice commended the Ministry of Education for Its proactive approach to the HFLE Curriculum asserting that the subject is life skill and values based.
She stated, “I applaud the efforts of the Ministry of Education which saw the importance that teachers in St. Kitts be well trained in pedagogical approaches to the subject while assuring that alternative assessment methodologies are utilized in the classroom.”
The workshop was held from January 15th – 19th 2018 at the Ocean Terrace Inn. The funding agencies for the workshop are the Caribbean Development Bank and UNICEF.
The Ministry wishes to affirm the importance of Health and Family Life Education for the continued growth and development of youth within the Federation.
