St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A young man who was named in social media as the person photographed by a CCTV camera and alleged to have committed a crime has been cleared by police, according to reports reaching WINN FM.
Over the weekend the photograph was being circulated in social media with a message that the young man was a suspect in an armed robbery on Friday night that resulted in the death of a security company owner and the serious injury of her partner.
A young man was named and additional photographs were rapidly circulated.
However when police issued the CCTV photograph on Sunday night, it was in relation to a completely different crime in another part of town. The police alert advised that picture was one of a person of interest for a Larceny from an unattended vehicle that occurred in another part of town.
A top police official has told WINN FM that the force will be investigating how the photograph got into the public domain and was being circulated as that of a murder suspect. Superintendent Cromwell Henry indicated that the CCTV capture was acquired by police from a privately owned security camera.
WINN FM has learned that since then, the father of the young man who was named over the weekend in social media, has taken him to the police who have determined that he is not the person captured by the CCTV camera.
Thursday afternoon there was no further word from police about whether anyone else has been named in relation to the larceny alert or whether CCTV footage is available from the scene of the fatal robbery which took place outside a bank.
