NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (March 15, 2017) — Junior Minister in the Ministry of Social Development on Nevis Hon. Hazel Brandy Williams, left Nevis on March 13, 2017, to attend the 2nd Gathering of the Open Parliament Network of ParlAmericas in Costa Rica.
The two-day conference which begins on March 16, 2017, is hosted by ParlAmericas in collaboration with the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica. The theme is “Strengthening the ties between citizens and legislators.”
At the forum, Minister Brandy-Williams will join parliamentary delegations from more than 20 countries in the Americas and the Caribbean.
A key objective of the meeting, is to continue promoting the implementation of ParlAmericas’ Road map towards Legislative Openness, through reflection on citizen participation and involvement in legislative functions.
The gathering will be preceded on Wednesday, March 15, by a training session on social networks that will present useful tools and strategies for promoting citizen participation.
On Thursday, March 16, the official inauguration of the gathering takes place in the Former Presidents of the Republic Room of the Legislative Assembly.
A Memorandum of Understanding between ParlAmericas and the Latin American Network for Legislative Transparency, a network of 19 Latin American civil society organizations, will also be signed during the inauguration.
Hon. Brandy-Williams is expected to return to Nevis on March 25, 2017.
