Video Footage of Students lined up along the corridor as they wait to cast their votes
The Ivor Walters Primary School held their annual Student Body Elections on Thursday 18 October; an exercise that allowed students to vote for their party of choice. Voting commenced at 9(am) and concluded at 12(pm).
Spearheaded by Teacher Shoya Lawrence and assisted by her co-workers, students lined the corridor in anticipation to cast their votes. Observers were present during the elections; Mrs. Jennifer Liburd and Mr. Kelvin Bramble observed the day’s proceedings.
Before the elections, the parties pitched their ideas to the various classes and before the assembly: the parties that were vying for the Student body Council were: Dreamers, Diamonds and Butterflies.
After voting, a few Students expressed that they were excited to vote because they wanted to have a say in their school.
The Diamonds formed the new executive body for 2018 -2019.
The Diamonds received a total of 104 votes from 180 registered Voters. With no spoilt ballots; the opposition parties the Butterfly received a total of 63 votes while “The Dreamers” tallied 8 votes.
There was a total of 5 Voters who were absent.

Vice President- Miss. Deyrecia Griffin
Secretary- Miss. Kheryssa Daly
Treasurer- Miss. Xzania Brookes
PRO- Miss Diandre’ Drew
Student Councils were introduced at the primary level to aid children’s understanding of how the voting process works in addition to allowing them to have a voice in schools matters.
