Ivor Walters Primary School claimed Championship honours in the final of the Education and Sports Department Primary School Football tournament held last week Thursday 28 November at the Elquemedo Willett Park.
Ivor Walters defeated Charlestown Primary School 4-2 after penalty shoot-out.
Charlestown found the back of the net early as the young IWPS goalie seemed to have misjudged the ball. CPS was infront 1-0 and IWPS seemingly lost their momentum as Charlestown grew more confident and turnt it up a notch.
The exchanges were so intense, that the IWPS goalie during a save got a boot to the head and had to be escorted off the field momentarily and a new goalie inserted. He was tested early and pulled off the save of the game.
At the end of the 1st half, Ivor Walters Primary School were still down 1-0.
Having made some key changes and the previous goalie inserted into the defense, Ivor Walters upped their intensity in the second half and found the back of the net via a corner kick. A superb header into by Amo the net saw IWPS supporters jumping for joy as the scores were now level, 1 all.
Both teams played aggressively but at the end of regulation time, the scores remained 1 – 1.
A penalty shoot-out occurred – The five players for each team was carefully chosen and Ivor Walters changed their goalie and inserted young Jones.
As the members of the crowd looked on with much anticipation, both teams scored on their first attempt. While Ivor Walters made their second and third attempts, Charlestown missed the second penalty entirely and the third was saved by the IWPS goalie, Amoree.
The penalty shoot-out ended prematurely in favour of IWPS, 3 goals to 1.
With Charlestown having left the field and Ivor Walters Primary in celebratory mode, Sports department coordinator, Kimbel Warde informed teams that the game was not yet complete.
After some discussions, Charlestown Primary School returned to the field of play but the penalty shoot-out didn’t continue.
As a result, the Ivor Walters Primary School was adjudged, the 2019 Primary School Football Champions with Leon Thomspon Jr being named Most Valuable Player while Jaheem Hazel was named Best Mid-fielder.
