BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, April 25th 2017 – The poor performance of the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Programme – one of the main revenue generating sectors of the economy – is expected to get worse, according to Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
Pointing out that whereas the Citizenship by Investment Unit was processing close to 300 applications monthly in 2014, Dr. Douglas said only 100 applications were processed in all of 2016.
“This is a grave concern to us. We would wish therefore that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis (led by Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris) understands it needs to bring onboard serious economic stimulation polices, especially in the sectors which were identified by his former St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party administration and which we continue to say we will stimulate when we return to office in the not too distant future,” said Dr. Douglas on his weekly radio call-in programme “Ask the Leader” on Kyss 102.F FM.
He said the deteriorating economy in St. Kitts and Nevis is a clear indication of the ineptitude that exists in the Team Unity administration that is concerned mainly of trying “to keep itself alive in the midst of internal conflict within the coalition structure of that government and which has diverted its attention away from the economic development of the country and is grossly concerned about its political survivability.”
