(EMU) – St. Kitts, May 22, 2018: There is no doubt that Kittitians and Nevisians are a patriotic people, and with the 35th Anniversary of Independence fast approaching, a theme has been selected.
‘Love, Service, Patriotism and Pride: Independence 35’ is the winning theme, submitted by Mrs. Yvette Slack, for the 35th Anniversary of Independence Theme Competition.
Mrs. Slack is a past educator and a pillar of the community, dedicating over 32 years of service to early childhood development while owning and supervising Slack’s Pre-School. “I am quite excited to be the winner for this year’s independence theme competition,” she declared.
She disclosed that she considered entering the theme competition when it was announced that the theme should focus on patriotism. She states, “I have always been a patriotic person, my mother, grandmother, all were patriotic. I said, I like this theme and I am going to try. I tried so many on a paper, until I came up with this one, Love, Service, Patriotism and Pride: Independence 35.”
Mrs. Slack is no novice when it comes to recognition. In 2017 at the awards ceremony for International Women’s Day, Mrs. Slack was celebrated and recognized for her stellar contribution to the nation for her contribution to nurturing the children of the Federation.
Beaming with pride, Mrs. Slack shared a few words of wisdom with her fellow countrymen. “I wish the entire nation a Happy Independence when it comes, and everyone should be proud of their country. We need to love our country, we need to serve, be patriotic. Forget the politics and love your country.”
The Ministry of Education congratulates Mrs. Slack and wishes each citizen a patriotic 35th Anniversary of Independence.
