Newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority, (ABTA) Richard “Ricky” Skerritt is expected to convene his first meeting of the board today with the full endorsement of the Minister of Tourism Asot Michael behind him.
According to Michael, Skerritt – who served as minister of tourism and international transport in St Kitts & Nevis from 2004 – 2015 – was made chairman effective October 1, in accordance with a Cabinet decision.
Speaking of Skerritt, Michael told OBSERVER media, “He developed the whole cruise ship tourism industry for St Kitts and Nevis; he developed Port Zante and grew the cruise ship business exponentially during his tenure. He has developed a very strong relationship with the cruise lines.”
Michael said Skerritt, a former chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), will serve as “chairman of the Continued on board and an advisor to the minister ”for a “two-year contract”.
The ABTA has listed Skerritt as having attracted the United States-based cruise industry to St Kitts; increased cruise passenger arrivals and led several redevelopments and re-organizations of tourismrelated bodies and areas
in St Kitts.
