(EMU) – St. Kitts, November 14, 2018: Winners of the First National STEM Fair were awarded for their innovation and resourcefulness during a ceremony held on Monday 12th November at the auditorium of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School.
The STEM Fair, held on November 8th and 9th drew 255 students from primary, secondary and tertiary level institutions around the country.
“Today’s event is not only a signal one in the Ministry of Education, but it is also a very relevant and profoundly meaningful exercise in our nation’s history,” announced the Minister of Education, Hon. Shawn Richards. “This event highlights that we are embracing Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics as the future of education in St Kitts and Nevis.”
“It was an electrifying and fitting culmination of two amazing days of STEM Fair displays,” exclaimed Olston Strawn, Science and Technology Coordinator, “Our children have made us proud.”
In addition to the top performers being awarded, each participating school and students received prizes and recognition.

These winners received a, a Scenic Railway tour, a special prize donated by Pharmcarre and a backpack.

Special presentations were made for the best exhibits in each of the disciplines in STEM, monetary prizes were distributed to the following;

Technology “From Trash to Treasure” by Olivia Brown, Ludelcia Harvey and Bionca Berry of Cayon High School
Engineering “Artbot” by Alique Gutterrez and J’yani Isaac of Cayon Primary School
Mathematics “Division Machine” by D’Jaaden Dunrod of Cayon Primary School
Integrated Project: “BAPS Natural Lip Gloss” by Zahra Browne, Leonard Stapleton, Ejah Colbourne of Beach Allen Primary School
The CC4Fish Project Award
This award went to the students with a project that best addressed the issue of climate change and its impact on the marine environment.
