Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 11, 2018 – Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Sunday, expressed sadness at the passing of former educator, Dr. Joseph Halliday.
“Starting at humble beginnings, overcoming the challenges of poverty and its related social ills, he was able by the providence of the Almighty and the nurturing and care of his parents and family to rise and shine as an Icon in the educational development and advancement of several generations of Kittitian and Nevisians,” said Dr. Douglas in a message to his daughter, Dr. Sharon Halliday.
In his message Dr. Douglas noted that when Mr. Halliday thought that he had retired from this stellar national service in conventional education, he retired himself and got moving on a completely new career path of recruiting training and advancing the human resources of the National Security Forces in their modernization programmes.
“During a life of service with all of these accomplishments, walking closely with God in building The Church to complement the shaping of the Kittitian and Nevisian Society, his dear wife and family stood firmly with him to the very end. That’s why I believe that he’s in a better place of permanent rest from his labours and ask Almighty God to look over his wife/your mom and family as you come to terms with your permanent loss,” said Dr. Douglas, who also expressed these sentiments not only on his own behalf as a friend who worked closely with him, but on behalf of the Parliamentary Opposition and the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.
