Tenth year Coach, Shirvon Greene has been recognised for leading Monroe Mustangs to its fifth straight Region XV Championship title. In so doing, Greene copped the the Atlantic Region’s Men’s and Women’s Coach of the year awards.
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Cross Country Track & Field awards for NJCAA Division I Cross Season were announced on Tuesday following the conclusion of the of the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships which were staged over the weekend at the University of New Mexico Golf Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The USTFCCCA awarded the Monroe College Cross Country track and field teams with four Atlantic Region awards at the ceremony.
Monroe head coach, Shirvon Greene was selected as the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year for both the men and women.
Two of the Mustangs athletes received Men’s and Women’s Atlantic Region Athlete’s of the Year Awards respectively.
Geoffrey Bwalley, a freshman won against JUCO competition, going undefeated. He won the individual title at Region XV Championships in 25:48.7. His female counterpart, Sharon Chumo a sophomore won the title at the Region XV Championships in 17:59.3.
Speaking to the team’s performances, Greene said:
When you set a standard, you can expect great results. With the dedicated students and support base, our athletes thrive. Their successes is as a result of dedicated commitment and hard work.

Coach Greene has now won the respective awards for the fifth straight season. Throughout his tenure at Monroe, some of his accolades include:
– 2018 Men’s and Women’s ALANTIC Region Indoor Assistant Coach of the year.
– 2018 Men’s and Women’s ALANTIC Region Outdoor Assistant Coach of the year.
2017 Men’s and Women’s ALANTIC Region Indoor Assistant Coach of the year.
– Coached All-American athlete Katleho Dyoyi from South Africa
The Level II Endurance and Distance Coach emphasized that they are looking forward to the Cross Country Season in January.
