SKN PULSE – The stage was set for the finals of the TDC sponsored Runako Shakur Morton Primary School Cricket Championship game, Ivor Walters Primary School vs Charlestown Primary School.

With perfect conditions for cricket and ample support from family and friends, the young cricketers were anxious to get going.

Just a couple minutes after two yesterday, (Friday 7th July) at the Elquemedo T. Willett Park, the Charlestown Primary School batted first and were restricted to 71 runs, according to unofficial information, the inform Theo Queeley was amongst the runs.

The bowling for the IWPS was on target to ensure that they restricted their opponents to under 100 to give themselves a fighting chance.

IWPS who on paper possessed a very strong batting  line up would have been the favourites to win the game considering Charlestown’s low score.

However, with cricket being a game of glorious uncertainties, it meant that CPS had to impress inorder to defy the odds stacked against them.

Once the leading wicket taker in the competition was introduced into the attack, the game was definitely on.

Young Amory bowled a spectacular spell as he bagged 4 wickets in a over completing the first and only hat-trick of the tournament.

With Captain Damari Mitchell, Lite Browne and young Marshall back in the pavilion, Ivor Walters were in bales of trouble as they were 26-6. The task even became more daunting as two more wickets fell.

Young Walters and the no. 10 batsman sought to put some respectability to the score as they occupied the crease for some time and needed just 20 runs to win with two wickets remaining. This was soon short-lived as Ovonje Amory, who bowled some bad deliveries giving away extras quickly found his line and had Walters comprehensively bowled. As a result, the ninth wicket fell and Ovonje bagged his fifth wicket of the game.

It was shortly after that, the celebrations began as Charlestown collected the last wicket and a disappointed Ivor Walters team were forced to settle for second place.

All teams must be commended for their level of play in this year’s tournament.
