The Steel Pan tradition is alive in the Federation: On Sunday 23 December, the melodious sounds of pan music soothed patrons at the annual Department of Culture and Sugar Mas 47 Steel Pan Competition.
Six bands entertained the crowd at the circus. Participating bands were: Cayon Pantastics, EBJ Harmonics, Charles E. Mills Secondary School Gems out of Saint Kitts and Young Vibrations Steel Orchestra, Sweet Sticks Ensemble and Nevis Pan Ensemble out of Nevis.
Competition was tight as Steel Orchestras belted out tunes of yester-year by local personalities and bands. At the end of the night however, Cayon Pantastics regained their title, a Three Peat. They beat there rivals EBJ Harmonics Steel Orchestra by 8 points for the second straight year.
Prior to the distribution of participation plaques and the announcement of winners, the Carnival Grand Marshall was announced. Having made a significant contribution to the Documenting, Archiving, Recording and Labelling of NATIONAL CARNIVAL, (Cultural Events) Mr. Mervin Sage has the distinct honour of serving as the Grand Marshall for Sugar Mas Carnival 2018-2019.
