Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society holds AGM; elects new Council of Management

PRESS RELEASE – On Thursday, June 1st, 2023, the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society (BHFNPS) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM). During the elections for a new Council of Management, the President and the then existing Council was largely returned unopposed, that is, except that a new Governor Representative was elected; Ms. Leah Chaderton, and the new Government Representatives will be appointed by the Government shortly.

The new Council of Management is therefore:

Mr. D. Michael Morton, CBE, JP – President

Mr. David Lake – Vice President

Mr. Schneidman Warner – Honorary Treasurer

Mrs. Antionette Frederick-Armstrong – Governor Representative

Mr. Leah Chaderton – Governor Representative

St. Kitts Marine Works  – Corporate Member Representative

Greg’s Safaris – Corporate Member Representative

Mr. Basil Woods – Ordinary Member Representative

Mr. Walford Gumbs – Ordinary Member Representative

Ms. Tassaney Steinbergen – Student Member Representative

Mr. Michael Martin – Honorary Secretary (Ex Officio)

Mr. Percival Hanley – General Manager (Ex Officio)

The Accounting firm of Clifton Parry was re-appointed as auditors.

The Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society is a membership organization incorporated under the Companies Act and was founded in 1965 for the main purpose of restoring, preserving and managing the historic Brimstone Hill Fortress.

The Fortress, a UNESCO World heritage Site, is a 17thand 18th-century military complex designed by the British and built by enslaved Africans. The centuries-old fortress is a testimony to European colonial expansion, the African slave trade and the emergence of new societies in the Caribbean.
