BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts and Nevis — The United States and Saint Kitts and Nevis are set to launch the 2026 Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Teams (LAMAT) mission, a health security cooperation engagement designed to strengthen partnerships, enhance medical readiness, and improve access to care across the Caribbean.
The mission will take place Feb. 23–March 6 at Ministry of Health designated facilities across Saint Kitts and Nevis. During this period, U.S. military medical professionals will work alongside Kittitian and Nevisian health care providers to deliver patient care, conduct medical knowledge exchanges, and collaborate on best practices aimed at strengthening readiness and interoperability.
“LAMAT reflects the close partnership we share with Saint Kitts and Nevis and our mutual commitment to medical readiness,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Brian Gavitt, Air Forces Southern command surgeon. “As we return for a third year, we are building on established relationships and trust—working side-by-side to strengthen capabilities, share expertise, and ensure our medical teams are prepared to respond together when it matters most.”
Led by U.S. Air Forces Southern, LAMAT 2026 underscores the United States’ enduring commitment to its partners in the Caribbean and Latin America, supporting collaborative approaches to humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
The Saint Kitts and Nevis engagement will focus on key medical areas including primary care, dentistry, audiology, emergency medicine, and preventive health services. In addition to patient care, the mission will emphasize professional exchanges designed to strengthen long-term medical capacity and regional resilience.
The Saint Kitts and Nevis mission will conclude with a closing ceremony on March 6, 2026, highlighting the accomplishments of the engagement and reinforcing the strength of the U.S.–Saint Kitts and Nevis partnership.
Saint Kitts and Nevis is the first of four host nations in the eight-week regional campaign, with follow-on stops in Guyana, Suriname, and Saint Lucia.
