An investigation has been launched into a shooting incident that occurred at Herbert Street, Newtown at 1 a.m. on March 4.
According to a press release from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the shooting occurred at the home of 40-year-old Derrick Williams.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that Williams, who is a licensed firearm holder, stated that he left his firearm on the bed and left the room. He then heard when the weapon fired. When he returned to the room he found 26-year-old Shamiqua Cannonier with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Cannonier is presently warded at the Joseph N France General Hospital where she is in stable condition.
Williams is in police custody and assisting the police with the investigation.
