“Like any scholarship, good academic standing is important. However, our scholarship places stronger emphasis on the financial need, quality of character, and civic mindedness of the applicants.” Dr. Marcus Natta, Scholarship Fund Chairman and Founder announced. He revealed that the total number of applicants for this year’s awards were 18 and thanked each student and their parents for taking the time out to complete and submit the application. Students who submitted applicants were then presented with tokens of appreciation.
‘You are meant to shine!’ this theme echoed throughout the scholarship presentation ceremony, particularly in the keynote address given by Ms. Latoya Jones, Assistant Regulator in the Nevis Financial Services Department. She shared with the students her personal experience at University and how having determination, hard work and the right attitude will prepare them for success. She stated, “I want you to be determined boys and girls and I want you to give of your best at all times. Always aim high, so even if you fall you will still do well. Do not give up on your dreams, even if you don’t get it right the first time, do not stop.”
The William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund was established on April 8th, 2010 to encourage primary school students within the Federation to strive for academic and civic excellence. It focuses on primary education because its aim is to foster early love for learning.
The Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to the memory of William Marcus Natta, a former army sergeant and accounts clerk. It provides financial and educational assistance to students from low-income families who display academic excellence, exhibit sound moral character and a strong sense of community service.
